Mercedes Unveils Longest-Range EV
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its all-new CLA, a fully electric compact sedan designed to challenge Tesla’s dominance. Boasting a range of up to 792 kilometers (492 miles) in Europe, it is the longest-range EV on the continent. The CLA can recharge nearly half its battery in just ten minutes and is expected to be priced competitively with the Tesla Model 3.
This new model represents a major shift for Mercedes, featuring MB.OS, the automaker’s in-house software that enables over-the-air updates, similar to Tesla’s approach. The CLA also debuts the Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA), allowing for more efficient power management and rapid charging.
With aggressive styling, a luxurious interior, and cutting-edge technology, the CLA targets younger buyers looking for premium performance. Mercedes sees this model as a blueprint for its future EV lineup, aiming to reclaim its status as the leader in luxury innovation. The CLA launches globally later this year.

Google DeepMind Predicts AGI by 2035
Artificial general intelligence (AGI), AI capable of matching or surpassing human intelligence, is still years away, but Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis predicts it could emerge within five to ten years. Speaking in London, Hassabis emphasized that while today’s AI is impressive in specific tasks, true AGI requires significant advancements in reasoning, planning, and real-world understanding.
Other experts have varied predictions. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei believes AGI could arrive within three years, while Cisco’s Jeetu Patel suggests it may emerge as soon as 2025. Meanwhile, Tesla’s Elon Musk and OpenAI’s Sam Altman foresee AGI in the “near future.”
The challenge lies in enabling AI to generalize knowledge beyond controlled environments like games. Google DeepMind is making strides in multi-agent AI, where systems collaborate and learn from each other. While AGI is on the horizon, the timeline remains uncertain, and superintelligence—AI surpassing human intelligence—remains even further away.

Oracle Invests $5B in UK AI
Oracle has announced a $5 billion investment in the UK over the next five years to support growing demand for cloud services and AI-driven innovation. The move will expand Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and align with the UK government’s goal of becoming an AI superpower.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has prioritized attracting tech investments, pledging to reduce regulatory hurdles. Oracle’s founder, Larry Ellison, a close ally of Donald Trump, may play a role in future UK-U.S. trade talks.
The UK, currently the third-largest AI hub after the U.S. and China, expects AI to contribute £47 billion ($61 billion) annually to its economy over the next decade. Other tech firms, including Vantage Data Centres and Kyndryl, have pledged £14 billion in AI investments, creating over 13,000 jobs.
However, concerns remain over AI-driven job losses and copyright regulations, with the government working to balance innovation and worker protections.
